QSR NVivo 10

QSR NVivo 10

Software to support qualitative and mixed methods research

  * Organise & analyse unstructured data
  * Interrogate your data & uncover subtle connections
  * Share & report evidence-based findings
  * NEW! Import web & social media data
  * NEW! NCapture tool

Platform: Windows

With NVivo 10 you can deeply analyze your data using powerful search, query and visualization tools.

Uncover subtle connections, add your insights and ideas as you work, rigorously justify findings and effortlessly share your work.

NEW FEATURES IN V10:

Capture and analyse online data

  • NCapture: Optionally install NCapture - a web browser extension for Internet Explorer 7 (or later). Use NCapture to collect web pages or social media data and then import this content into NVivo.
  • Import web pages: Use NCapture to gather web pages and online PDFs, and then import them into NVivo as a PDF source.
  • Import Facebook wall posts and comments: Use NCapture to gather Facebook wall posts and comments from people, organizations or groups, and then import them into NVivo as dataset sources.
  • Import Tweets: Use NCapture to gather Tweets from Twitter—for example, Tweets that include a particular word, phrase or hashtag, or Tweets by a particular user—and then import them into NVivo as a dataset source.
  • Import LinkedIn group discussions: Use NCapture to gather LinkedIn group discussions that are relevant to your research, and then import them into NVivo as dataset sources.
  • Automatically code social media data: NVivo provides automatic coding features to quickly group social media data—for example, group Facebook wall posts by conversation, or group Tweets by hashtag.
  • Visualize social media data: NVivo provides automatic visualizations for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn datasets to help you see patterns in your data. For example, in a Twitter dataset, click the Chart tab to compare activity over time or compare users based on the number of followers they have.

Improved performance

  • NVivo runs faster: We have optimized the way NVivo stores and accesses data, so that NVivo is faster in many ways, including coding, auto coding, creating and opening nodes, running queries and deleting project items.
  • Better performance when working with large amounts of data: Large sources and nodes open faster. Large nodes (200+ references) are now displayed in sections (or blocks) of 100 references in node Detail View. This means that nodes open quickly, regardless of size. Queries run faster, even as project size increases.
  • Larger project sizes: The maximum project size for standalone projects has been increased to 10 GB (previously 4GB).

Import notes from Evernote

  • Import your Evernote notes: Do you use Evernote to take notes, collect images or clip web pages?
You can now import your notes into your project and work with them in NVivo.
  • Import your Evernote tags: If you tag your notes to categorize them in Evernote, you can convert the
tags to nodes and coding when you import your notes.

Usability Improvements

  • Improvements to the ribbon: The new Query tab makes queries easier to find, and there are minor
changes to the size and position of commands on other tabs, so that frequently used commands are
    more prominent.
  • Minimize the ribbon with one click: A new command has been added to the ribbon, so that you can
minimize or maximize the ribbon with a single click.
  • Work with Detail View on the right: Do you prefer to work with the Detail View on the right? NVivo
now 'remembers' the position of the Detail View—and whenever you launch NVivo, the Detail View will
be where it was the last time you used the software.
  • Drag and drop coding: Datasets, audio and video transcripts and picture logs now fully support 'drag
and drop' coding, so you can use this coding method for all types of source content

Other enhancements

  • Spell check your sources: If you work with documents, memos, transcripts, framework matrices and
picture logs, you can now check the spelling of these source materials within NVivo. You can also
    check spelling in your annotations.
  • More audio and video formats: Do you work with audio created on mobile devices, or high definition
(HD) video? NVivo now provides support for .m4a audio files, or video files in .3gp, .mts or .m2ts
    formats.
  • New Coding Summary Reports: NVivo now provides two predefined coding summary reports that
    include your coded text.
  • Print coding stripes on the same page: You can now choose to print coding stripes on the same
page when you print documents, memos and externals.
  • Improved tag clouds: Tag clouds now contain more relevant terms, because additional stop words
are now provided for English (UK) and English (US).
  • Find nodes that code other nodes: You can now use Advanced Find to find all the theme nodes that
code a case node, or find case nodes that are coded at a theme.
  • Create 100% stacked bar and column charts: These new chart types are useful when you want to
compare the percentage that each value contributes to the total for the bars or columns.
